Jake's Song Of The Week-April 19

JSOTW_1.jpg
Hello readers! This turned out to be a fun week. I was asked to slap on the DJ Foodguy hat again and I got do do some spinning for a small, yet fun party at a friend's apartment. The apartment is beautiful and they thought it might be fun to have a DJ. It was great to pack up my mixer and entertain a cool group of people for the evening. When I was doing it semi regularly, I had a photographic memory of what song was on each disc. It took me a while to get into the groove of things, but all went well.

What was the word of the week here in the states this week??? TEA PARTIES! That's right, no cucumber sandwiches, scones or clotted cream were served at these protests. It seems that many of our citizens are not happy with the President's spending and new tax ideas, so these Docker wearing patriots got together in protest. I saw some of the snooze fests on TV and who did I see entertaining the crowd? Ted Nugent!!! That man is one big nut job. I only saw him playing guitar. I'm sure he had something poignant and intelligent to say after he did his "Wango Tango". Nice choice to represent. I guess they wanted to look "hip" by picking him. It was a rather boring display. There were no Mad Hatters at this tea party and Alice seemed to have skipped the "Drink Me" bottle. One question though. Why do people feel compelled to bring their kids to political rallies? Like we are supposed to believe that an eight year old really cares about taxes while he wears a badly painted sign that his parents made for him?

It was also the return of Sarah Palin week! Sarah decided to lend her face to an anti abortion rally in Indiana this week. It's going to be interesting to see how this lady keeps herself in the public eye long enough to run for president in 2012. I will say one thing for her. She does really seem to believe in everything she says. But then again so did the guy outside the Burger King yesterday that told me that red meat had caused his penis to fall off, thus causing his wife to leave him and putting him in the homeless state he was in. It was a good story, so he got my spare change! On the crazy scale, he gets a 5. Next time, I do the Drive-Thru.

Depeche Mode

I've got music from a band that is known for being influential and at times ground breaking. How about some new stuff from DEPECHE MODE? Yep, the boys are back! These guys are probably the biggest band to come from the 1980's New Wave movement. They have sold over 100 million records world wide and have a new cd called Sounds Of The Universe that will be available here in the U.S. on April 21st. They will be touring Europe and will be doing 28 cities in 21 countries. The dates for the U.S. tour have been announced. The song is called Wrong. The video is actually pretty interesting. It's a disturbing little video that kept my attention. We all know I have the attention span of a ferret, so that's a pretty good accomplishment. It's good to have Depeche Mode back!

Marilyn Chambers

The adult film world had a loss this week. Marilyn Chambers passed away! Best known for her part in Behind The Green Door, she also created some hooplah after having sex on screen with a black actor named Johnny Keyes. She was picked for the role due to her resemblance to then popular actress Cybill Shepard(who just gave the sex away). She also got some press after passing out after a 45 minute love marathon on screen. She was a smart lady when it came to her career. She got 25,000 dollars to be in Behind The Green Door(that was a lot of money) and even asked for a percentage of the gross! That was unheard of back then. Then she relesed the info that she was in fact the face of the Mom on the Ivory Snow box. The lady was only 56 when she passed away. Back when I worked at a retail pharmacy, we had a video club and offered a small selection of adult films. I remember one of our wittier pharmacists having a thing for Marilyn Chambers. He would always ask if she was still making movies. It broke my heart to tell the guy that she really hadn't made that many to begin with.

Enjoy your week guys. I'm going to go out and give the yard it's first mowing of the season. It looks like we're gonna get some rain here, so I'd better get out there. I'm very happy to be able to put a pair of shorts on! I'll have to start working on the tan soon. Enjoy the music!

Cheers, Jake aka"Dj Foodguy"
